Description: On a recent weekend visit to Philly I went with 2 other friends to try two of Chef Jose Garces' restaurants (Distrito and Village Whiskey)...three if you count drinks at Tinto! Village Whiskey is an intimate and hip bar/pub with a few rounded high-top booths. Reservations were not accepted and this being a Saturday night we anticipated a wait. We were given a two hour wait, but went next door and had a drink . The wait was actually a little shorter than the 2 hours we were told, which was nice. Once we actually were seated and looked around we realized how small the restaurant was and why the wait was so long. In the end, it was worth it. The burgers were amazing.
Two of us (including myself) got the burgers with eggs, avacado, bacon, cheese, etc. I ordered mine medium and it was cooked perfectly inside, although I personally prefer a bit less "char" on the outside. My friend disagreed and was excited for the char flavor. The third member of our party ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown after a conversation with the booth next to us. He ended up thinking it was amazing. We all tried and agreed. We also ordered the tater tot appetizer and the duck fat french fries. We enjoyed both.
Because we'd had a couple of drinks next door while waiting for the table, we chose not to have any drinks at Village Whiskey, so I cannot comment on those.
Overall we had an excellent experience and would definitely go back. If you go, expect a long wait and expect to become friendly with your very close neighbors at the table next to you.
