Description: After running around the cemetery in the cold, damp, weather we knew we were starving and wanted something to eat before we headed home. So we decided to check out the Burgermesiter.
Patrons can start out with appetizers such as fried pickle chips, wings, or cheese sticks. They offer up soups and salads. Sandwiches include the Californian, Cranberry Turkey, Open Face Turkey Mix, or customize your grill cheese. There are 6 subs including a couple of New Orleans Potboys. There are fish options. There are more than a dozen burgers which include beef, buffalo. Elk, veggie, and tofu.
John and I start with salsa and chips. The salsa is so amazing and the warm chips hit the spot. John isn’t as hungry as I am so he just has a bowl of the soup of the day which is tomato bisque. I go for the Plain Jane but opt for bison instead of beef. It comes with lettuce, homemade pickles, marinated tomatoes, and it comes with a homemade mayo but I have mustard instead.
The place has a fun and funky vibe going. There are 45’s hanging in the window (a novel concept for younger dinners I am sure). The tables have comic books and vintage advertising under glass. I even spot a planter like a hamburger. And the bike rack outside is adorable.
It doesn’t take long before our lunch arrives. John said his soup was nice, rich, and tasty. My burger is oh my heaven…wonderful and the fries seem to be hand cut and not from a bag. Everything is fresh tasting and healthy. For dessert we take some of Randy’s hot cookies with us for the road. They didn’t make it past the Ashville city limit! It takes 15 minutes for them to come out so you may want to order them when your meal arrives.
They do have a bar and kids menu, though what kids generally like can be found on the main menu! Ashville restaurants are very vegan/vegetarian friendly, and the Burgomaster is no different. They have oodles of options if meat ain’t your thing. And in fact back in the 90’s started out with veggie burgers. Despite being a burger place, everything is still nice and healthy!
