Description: When it comes to sushi, I don't really have much experience, always considering it as rather expensive grub and not willing to fork out as much as I would willingly on an Indian. I've ate some homemade sushi by a friend and I'm occasionally bombarded with leaflets from the nearby sushi restaurant but there's Sushi restaurants coming out of Warsaw's ears and it's only so long before you can avoid coming into contact with roar fish.
Several years ago, the idea would likely have been repulsive to me, least not perhaps because I was a vegetarian! These days though, I'm quite open to anything and when it became clear I was heading for a birthday party at Akashia in the centre of Warsaw, the only thing that worried me was the price.
I clearly wasn't the only one worrying about it, it's been a long wait for pay day this month and the turnout for this part of the birthday was pretty low, 4 it turned out seemed to be an awkward number and there was no spare tables for that amount of people, fortunately for us they'd opened up a new place next door called "Akasia Club", the original place is just a well lit restaurant whilst the latter is a mixture of restaurant and lounge bar, an enormous screen stands above a stage with a piano on it.
Eric Clapton and Michael Buble wasn't quite the J-rock we might have hoped for but this restaurant was comfortable with competent staff who spoke several languages and served reasonably priced, excellently prepared sushi. We ordered the "Sushi Set Family" which consisted of:
16 sushi, 18 maki, 5 futomaki and 6 california maki - which was ample for 4 people, I was actually rather stuffed although I imagine I had quite a bit more than the others! At 150zl (about 33 quid), it's not bad once split and came excellently presented with warm towels, ginger, wasabi, soya sauce and a whole range of accompaniments including a salad and a dessert included.
I should perhaps add that the waiter was always quick to attend to our needs but did not fuss us unnecessarily.
I wouldn't hesitate to go to this place again nor recoomend it but I would suggest reserving a table, particularly at lunch times where the Lunch Menu at a mere 19zl (4 quid) pulls in the customers. There are currently four of these places in the city, all rather close to each other, I've only tried "Akasia Club" but they all have superb reputations and I have no reason to doubt the quality on offer. This is on the bottom floor of Zlote Tarasy and therefore likely to be the one you come in to contact with as it's the most central.
