Description: Now it might seem silly for a meat eater to look for vegetarian food, however after 3 weeks in Florida I was craving something slightly healthier than the giant steaks and burgers available everywhere. When talking to our hotel receptionist she suggested Sweet Tomatoes, which was actually just a block over from our hotel. I don't know how I had missed it, but I obviously hadn't been paying attention. Anyway I ended up visiting there that night and was very impressed. It's a pretty unassuming building, in a low ranch style with plenty of parking out front (of course there is this is in America not the UK!). It isn't a high-end restaurant, more like the buffet style restaurants that you will find up and down International Drive.
On entering the restaurant you have to choose what you want from the overhead boards and take a plate and tray each collecting a big plate of salad on your way in. A tip that I learnt after my first visit is to load this plate up because you can't go back (unless you flutter your eyelashes at a waiter). There is so much salad to choose from and loads of different dressing options, so I'm pretty sure there will be something even for the most picky of children and people. Talking of children, this is a great place to get them to eat some of their 5 a day.
However, you would be mistaken in thinking that salad is all this place has to offer. After you've paid for your dinner you are then shown to a table and then you can head around to the hot buffet, where there is pizza, pasta, soup, chowder, fresh bread and loads of desserts to choose from. And to make sure you're well watered the soft drinks are refillable. When we visited we paid around $12 each for all you can eat, however I am pretty sure that by now this price will have gone up, like everything else has. I still think though that it will be reasonable in comparison to other restaurants in the area.
I was really impressed with the choice here and I visited several times in the last few weeks of my stay in Orlando. I felt healthier, even when I had dessert, but I'm sure that was just me convincing myself I could eat more. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and I even made friends with one of the waitresses, who made sure I got a table when I visited. All in all I think this is a great choice, both affordable and quite healthy, and a great place to take children and adults alike!
