Description: The Jardín de la Orotava de Aclimatación is a botanical garden, which is also just called the Jardín Botánico (Botanical Garden). The garden was created in 1788 and was commissioned by King Charles III as tropical plants needed a more moderate climate and the main land of Spain wasn’t up for it. Today is the Jardín Botánico a botanical garden where you can admire more than 200 plant and tree species from around the world.
The botanical garden is in the neighborhood of La Orotava and not in Puerto de la Cruz, north Tenerife. More specifically the Jardín Botánico is in the district of La Paz, located at the Avenida Marqués Villanueva del Prado. To find the garden, you should get a map of Puerto de la Cruz and look for the road because there are few signs and are already in the vicinity of the garden, so it may be difficult without a map.
The Botanical Garden is open during the summer months (April to September) from 9 to 19 clock. In the remaining months it closes one hour earlier. On January, Good Friday and on 25 December, the park remains closed.
To visit the botanical garden adults must pay 3 € which I think is a reasonable price. When we visited the Botanical Garden, it was already 17:30 clock and we were initially unsure whether we should pay 3 euros, because we did not know how big the system or whether we prefer to come back another time with more time should. However since one and a half hours to the closure were before us, we decided to visit. Ultimately, we have spent an hour in the garden.
After paying his admission, you get a booklet (in Spanish), which touches on the history of the botanical garden and provides an overview of the found on such plants. In addition to some plants put signs with numbers in the soil, these numbers can be found in the booklet and can read their Spanish and Latin names. In the magazine there is also a plan of the park with all ways, the locations of the numbered plants and position of the administration and the like. If you're not just looking for certain plants, you need this plan, however, since not the botanical garden is very large.
The Botanical Garden is laid out rectangular. There are two main paths, one in the north-south and one in the west-east. From these paths branch off many small ways, which run mostly parallel to the main roads. Where is the main way to meet a large round lily pond. There is another, smaller pond is directly behind the entrance. At the southern end of the park there is a rectangular lily pond, which is accessible via a few steps and thus separates from the rest of the garden. There is also a greenhouse with orchids.
We went first to the main road to the south and have seen there very diverse plant species. By some very tall trees of the garden is pleasantly shady and cool. Since it already went to the evening, the park was visited only a little, there were more than 10 other people on the move. Whether this is different to other times, I can not say of course. Anyway, it was very peaceful and one is, depending on which way you are struck, even now and all alone. In addition to interesting trees like the strangler fig, and various species of cactus, there was to see many exotic and colorful plants. The byways are worth, because often you do not see these beautiful plants to the main road out, but only when you turn a corner. So we went back and forth across the garden, until we had walked every path once and had seen all the plants. Without rest, and all too long to remain at the individual plants, we have certainly seen in half an hour everything. As there is so beautiful but it's worth it to stay longer.
Even if the Jardín Botánico is not as great as that one would have to recover from a long loop, it's great to enjoy in such a setting a little rest and just sit down somewhere. In the garden there are several options in the form of benches. Especially nice is the southern water-lily pond. As you go up a few levels must, you can not see the bottom of the pond. Upstairs there are several benches on which we spent a while and enjoyed the rest. Unlike other botanical gardens, which I visited, there are no cafes or restaurants, not even a stand, so you really just enjoy the tranquility and biodiversity of exotic plants.
The Jardín de la Orotava de Aclimatación is really worth a visit for which you should spend an hour or longer, depending on whether you only see it all, or would like to dwell a little. Species diversity is truly impressive, and the plant is well maintained, so I think the price of admission justified, even if the garden smaller than I first thought. I am Jardín Botánico nothing wrong, so I give the full amount of five stars and a recommendation.
