With only 2 days to explore Barcelona, we wanted to get the most "bang for our buck"-or Excitement for our Euro!—and the Sightseeing Bus was the answer. After strolling the most famous Avenue, La Rambla, with its bookstalls, flower stalls, and mimes, we boarded the Double Decker at Playa Catalunya. Our eyes and ears followed the Red Route all morning; then switched to the Blue after a delightful lunch in the City Market. Audio via individual headphones gave us a running commentary of this fascinating historic Spanish City. Colorful blooms and blossoms, basking in the welcome warmth of Spring’s sunshine, added to the eye candy of cathedrals—the Sagrada Familia being the most famous, as well as castles, museums, parks, and palaces. Pride in architectural uniqueness was evident everywhere! The flamboyant designs of Gaudi echo throughout the city. One of the most interesting areas explored and explained was the Olympic Village. Barcelona hosted the 1992 Olympic Games and now impressive sport facilities still attract world-wide events. Classy residential developments dot the city, but the high-rises at Port Olympic take advantage of the incredible Mediterranean seascape. I could go on and on about this seaport city, the capital of Catalonia, and also Spain’s second largest city, but I won’t. Suffice it to say that Barcelona beckons a return visit. She has secrets to be uncovered. I’m going back soon!
