Description: Buried in an old salt mine over 650 feet underground, the Cathedral of Sal of Zipaquira (Catedral de Sal Zipaquira) is a wildly popular destination for tourists and pilgrims alike. Since it opened in 1995, the church complex has been named a “Jewel of Modern Architecture”, and gathers close to 3,000 people for worship each Sunday. Check out the 14 smalls chapels within the Stations of the Cross section of the church. Snap photos of the Dome, or get lost in the Narthex Labyrynth. And once you’ve had enough of subterranean sightseeing, why not peruse the mining and geology exhibits in the museum at the nearby Salt Park (of which the church is a part).
