Description: We love to go away for a few nights now and then but sometimes we go away a little big longer and just drive through a country to discover all the little places and even the bigger towns. We have already seen quite a bit from Germany but of course we had to visit the beautiful city of Cologne. Cologne is located more to the south/middle of Germany and is a big city with the famous Dom cathedral that’s really worth a visit. We stayed a little further away from the Cathedral but that meant it was easier to park with our car.
We stayed at the Günnewig Hotel Stadtpalais. The Günnewig Hotel Stadtpalais is a four star hotel with over 100 rooms, so it’s not a small hotel. We stayed in the double room. The hotel has a modern feeling and looks elegant when you enter. You have to go up a few steps to enter the building but then you can come in a beautiful lounge/reception area. We were greeted by two friendly staff members who spoke perfectly English which made checking in so much easier. Since we had made a reservation beforehand, all our details were already known so checking in was very easy. We were shown to the elevator and up to our room on the third floor.
The room has really nice and certainly something you would expect from a four star hotel. When you enter the room you notice that it’s very modern but still warm at the same time. They used a lot of dark wood which really gives that home feeling. On the right you find the bathroom with bath/shower and some free shampoo and soap which is always nice. Further in the room you will find a comfortable double bed, closet space, television, air conditioning and a desk with chair. All what you really need. We stayed three nights here and didn’t hear a noise from the neighbours or outside! Always good because I hate being woken up by the neighbours in the night when they come back in their rooms late at night.
The breakfast was on the first floor and was in a spacious room which was quite busy. Maybe it was the time we went for breakfast since it was almost 9 o clock and most people are then up and running and excited to explore the city! Also in the breakfast room you notice the same atmosphere and also here is a lot of wood. The breakfast was quite extensive and taste very good. We especially enjoyed the fresh made coffee which some hotels don’t seem to understand how important that is.
Worth the visit?
Overall we had a few wonderful nights here and good night’s sleep. The hotel location could be better but with the metro you are only minutes away from the centre of Cologne. The staff was very friendly and helpful from the beginning to the end. The hotel looked very luxurious and gave us a welcome and friendly feeling. The room was good and everything we needed. When you are going to stay in Cologne i would like to recommend this hotel. I give this hotel 4 star!
