Description: This is a charming boutique hotel of 23 rooms; situated at the end of Gaya street, within 5 minutes walking distance to the Jesselton pier, restaurants and shopping malls. The hotel is approximately 20 minutes by taxi from the airport and is convenient base for exploring the islands of Manukan, Mamutik, Sapi and Gaya as well as the attractions in town.
We stayed at the compact S twin sharing room for 3 nights and paid a total of RM $387 or USD $126. Reservations were made directly online at the hotel's website and via email. The replies were prompt and the reservation process was smooth. What I liked most of this cosy hotel besides its location is that it is strictly non-smoking, has complimentary wireless access in all rooms and is manned by friendly staff who will try their best to assists, be it getting a taxi or giving advice on where to eat or visit. Our room is compact but comfortable. The facilities in the room were adequate for a short stay. The only downside of this hotel is that you need to climb a steep flight of stairs to the lobby and rooms everyday.
There is no lack of eateries nearby with a modern supermarket just a few steps away from the hotel selling imported foods and gourmet bread and a family run grocery store selling local Peranankan desserts and snacks as well as fresh fruits and vegetables next to the hotel. We tried many of the Peranankan snacks as it was yummy and cheap. Our meals were largely eaten along Gaya street, a historical street that dates back 100 years and filled with old world charm. Although we missed the Sunday market, we caught the Christmas pasar malam (night street fair) and spent almost every night browsing through the stalls selling handmade handicrafts, sampling the local snacks and soaking in the Christmas atmosphere.
For those looking for a short, relaxing gateaway in an old city, do consider Hotel Eden54. We enjoyed our short stay there, it rejuvernated us without leaving a dent in our pockets.
