Description: Premier Inn Holystone in Newcastle is somewhere I have passed frequently as I only live a few miles away from it and therefore I have never had a need to stay there. However, whilst planning a recent evening out which involved a meal at the adjoining restaurant 'The Stonebrook', I discovered that it would only be £19 to book a room at this Premier Inn that evening, which worked out cheaper than travelling home via taxi and so we decided to book a room and make an evening of it.
~~ Premier Inn Holystone ~~
The hotel is situated a few miles out of the centre of Newcastle on the outskirts of the city. It lies very close to the A19 and Tyne Tunnel and the seaside town of Whitley Bay is not far away either.
Two metro stations are located close by, making this hotel accessible to the centre of Newcastle and outlying areas.
Adjoining the hotel is a Table Table restaurant, The Stonebrook.
I booked a room via the Premier Inn Website www.premierinn.com and as there was a room sale on at the time, I managed to secure a double room for £19, although Premier Inn have regular offers available where you can book rooms for as little as £29, even when there is not a sale. Check the website for more details of this as there are good rates to be had at Premier Inn hotels and it is something I have taken advantage of on a number of occasions this year. I usually always have a good experience when staying at a Premier Inn and my night at Holystone was no different.
~~ Our Stay ~~
Check-in was at 2pm and we arrived a little after this to allow ourselves plenty of time to prepare for the evening ahead and also to enjoy a couple of drinks in the bar at The Stonebrook next door before our evening meal.
Checking in was problem-free and we were greeted by a friendly staff member. Although I had booked online, payment is not taken from you until you arrive, but this only took a couple of minutes to complete. We were staying on what has probably been the coldest evening we have had in the North East this autumn so far and the receptionist chatted with us recalling all the snow last winter and how the staff were digging customers cars out of the car park. We hoped that wasn't going to be the case on this occasion!
This hotel has had an extension since it was built and our room was located on the ground floor in the newer part of the hotel overlooking the large car park.
Our double room was spacious enough for us and spotlessly clean. Decorated in the usual white and purple which is the norm for Premier Inn and which I don't mind as I love purple.
As well as the large double bed, a large sofa bed was positioned near the window and there was still plenty of space to move around. A unit which combines open hanging space for your clothes as well as shelves, also housed a mirror with lights above, making this ideal for doing your hair or make-up as the lighting is really good and there are also sockets to plug in straighteners etc. A hairdryer is provided but I always prefer to take my own anyway.
A kettle and mugs are provided along with some sachets of tea, coffee, milk and sugar. I always find Premier Inn are a bit stingy with these, but will always provide you with more if you ask. I usually find there isn't enough milk provided and it was the same here, but the receptionist was happy to give me some more.
Also in the room is a flat screen TV with some freeview channels a workspace and plenty of sockets I am pleased to report. I haven't usually had a problem re lack of sockets, but did stay at another Premier Inn earlier this year where there was only one socket which was placed above the workspace but not high enough from it to be able to plug anything in which had an adapter such as a mobile phone charger.
At this hotel however, there were plenty, with a socket beside the workspace as well as next to the bed and beside the mirror.
It was quite a cold day and although the heater on the wall in the bedroom appears small, the room quickly warmed up when we turned the heating up. This is done by moving an arrow up or down on the digital thermostat on the wall. The room was cosily warm in minutes and we were certainly warm enough throughout our stay.
The bathroom was very clean and there was a bath with overhead shower which was quite powerful. There was plenty of hot water and the towels provided were bright white, just like the bedlinen. They were also thicker than some I have used in hotels which was nice.
The bed was very comfortable, which is one thing I can say about all the Premier Inns I have stayed in, the beds are always comfortable, as are the pillows. We were provided with two each and these were just how I like them, soft and springy. I slept very well and the hotel was quiet, we heard no noise even though a fair amount of guests were staying there.
We ate in the adjacent restaurant, The Stonebrook that evening and that was also a good experience and one which I am happy to recommend. If you book breakfast at the Premier Inn then The Stonebrook is where your breakfast will be served.
We spent an enjoyable night at Premier Inn Holystone and I am happy to recommend both the hotel and bar/restaurant next door if you need a hotel in the Newcastle area. Even if you don't have a car, the metro provides fast access into the centre of Newcastle.
Check-out is at 12 noon and we were asked if everything had been ok for us and were thanked for staying. Thankfully it did not snow and so we did not need any help digging our car out the next morning! Premier Inn offer a good night guarantee and are happy to refund your money if you do not have a good night's sleep at one of their hotels, which is another reason you can book with confidence.
