Description: After arriving in Siem Reap, I decided to stay at the Ta Som Guesthouse which was situated along the main street that runs through the town. On arriving, I noticed that the guesthouse was filled with activity as lots of backpackers were hanging out in the common room. This immediately put me at ease, and convinced me that my choice was ideal.
The check-in process was quick and painless. The staff simply asked how many nights I wanted to stay, and wrote down my passport details as security. I paid US $14 for the night, in a single room with air conditioning. I was then shown to my room, which was located on the second floor via a flight of stairs.
The room was really nice, and surpassed others which I've seen throughout South East Asia. The floor was tiled with cream tiles, and it appeared as though it was swept on a daily basis. The bed was queen sized, with a thick comforter and clean sheets. The kind of bed that promises a good night of slumber.
There were two bedside tables on each side of the bed. One had the remotes for the airconditioning and the television, as well as a few magazines. On the other bedside table were my blanket and a fluffy bath towel. There was also a random roll of toilet paper, but this seems to be a normal tradition in South East Asia.
The ensuite bathroom was large, featuring a massive shower head with hot and cold options. There was no tub, but a drain in the floor to remove the water. On the wall, was a small medicine cabinet, containing bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner and a packet containing a toothbrush and toothpaste. It was quite a nice array of complimentary toiletries.
Ta Som Guesthouse is located one of the nicer areas of Siem Reap. There are many little shops and small restaurants nearby, mostly owned by locals. The main street tends to be very busy during the day, filled with tuk tuks, motorbikes, bicycles and the occasional car/jeep. One should pay careful attention when attempting to cross the road.
The next morning, there was a complimentary breakfast which was served on the large verandah outside. I was given a menu with several options to choose from. I decided on scrambled eggs with fresh local bread, a bowl of seasonal fruit and a cup of tea. It was very delicious and the seasonal fruits were lovely. The meal was filling and the service was very efficient.
I enjoyed my stay at the Ta Som Guesthouse. They provide good value for your money, and the service was personal and very memorable.
