Description: New Year's Eve I was with friends in Belgium, more precisely in Bruges. There we stayed at the hotel Groeninghe. Hotel Groeninghe is a small, family-run hotel in the city center of Bruges. Since 1977, consists of the hotel and everything was renovated in 2007. The hotel is a three-star hotel, housed in an old city mansion.
The hotel is located, as already mentioned, in Bruges, Belgium, which in turn is located in the Flanders region. Bruges as a city should probably all be a term and die to see the latest on the film Bruges and the city gained more attention than it already has before. Each year, about three to four million tourists travel to the beautiful little town. With 115 000 inhabitants, of which 25 000 in the historical center, Bruges is more of a small town, you can easily explore on foot - at least the area in the center.
Who's ever been to Bruges, I certainly agree that this is a really beautiful city that is special because the historic center is almost intact and a lot of beautiful churches, guild halls and cozy, narrow streets and small gabled cottage has to offer. A truly great city in which there is much to discover.
The hotel is located in the beautiful, historic city core. However, it is not in the middle, but on the edge, in a quiet little street, so that one is fast all around, but at night has his rest. The hotel is in any case only 5 to 10 minute walk from most attractions of the city center and is therefore an ideal starting point for exploring the city.
Near the hotel there are several public parking lots. In the parking garage at the train station (8 minutes) per day parking costs only 2.50 EUR. Another parking lot to reach in about 2 minutes, costs per day 7,50 EUR. There are also other, less familiar and convenient parking in the immediate area, the owner gave us the information. In front of the hotel, there are only parking spaces, on which one may hold more than two hours. But if you unloads his luggage and then brought the car away, it's not much of a problem that it is not directly facing the door, In Bruges, you need it anyway.
Since this is an old villa here you can not expect any large, spacious hallways, and certainly no lift. All rooms are accessible only by stairs. The hotel is in no way disabled and elderly people who can not climb stairs well, should think twice about whether they check in here because the rooms are spread over three floors. If one has his own room at the top, you have to keep all three flights of stairs and of course go down again. For me personally it is not a disadvantage, however, that there is no elevator, stairs because I (still) do not mind.
Throughout the hotel there is free wireless Internet, you just have to ask at reception for the password. Then it can be received everywhere in the house.
Our rooms were spread over three floors. We had a double, a double room for single occupancy and two single rooms booked. The double room, based my fiance and I was on the first floor - bedroom 2 our friend, who had the double room for single use had one floor further up - the room 5 Even further up, to the third floor, had the two, who moved into a single room. The single rooms have no numbers, but letters. So related that both the rooms C and D.
Each room looks probably a little bit different. There is for example also rooms are decorated in green. When you enter the room but you can see already that this is a fairly small space. There is an entrance area in which a mirror and a folding luggage rack is available. Then it is already right in the actual room.
The bed dominates the room, but you can easily go around it. The bed is equipped with a very comfortable, not too hard and not too soft mattress. There are four pillows, which are also easily and comfortably warm, continuous blanket is so broad that they are not mutually leaving, if you turn around. The bedding was very clean. There was not the smallest spots and everything smelled very fresh. Overall, I slept very well every night in this bed.
The carpet is clean and has no stains. You hear when walking, however, how old is the house because the floor creaks a little. From neighbors or us but no crunch could be heard, so you do not fear for his night's rest must. Besides the bed there is a small table with two comfortable chairs and a large closet, where you can put his things loose, even if you stay longer. In the cabinet there are also other pillows and blankets if you freeze. As the table and the cabinet are also the two bedside tables in dark wood. On the wall opposite the bed hangs a flat-screen TV. In the cabinet there is a kettle, so you can prepare tea or coffee can, which is available free on the table in the room. The table has a glass plate under way, the text on the history of the hotel (in Dutch and French) written down.
There is a large window that opens wide and equipped with mosquito nets, is to enter anything in the summer flies. Those who do not trust the grid can also hire the air conditioning, but I have personally after my U.S. trip had enough of air conditioning. In the summer, but it is certainly not wrong to have one in the room, because after all it can get hot. The curtains fit well with the rest of the interior color and darken the room very well monitored. Without making light at night it is not easy to find the way to the bathroom.
Overall I was very pleased with the room. For a three-star hotel, it cuts off very well here, especially since it was really very clean. The other three rooms were clean. The single rooms are simple but of the equipment, but not necessarily smaller. The bed is a queen bed and the mattress is not quite as good as the double room. But the bathroom is new and comfortable. There are, for example, a real shower, in which one must not climb inside and wear and tear or mildew stains are also not there. Overall, the double room but still comfortable, but also more expensive.
In the hotel Groeninghe the buffet breakfast is included. The breakfast room is on the ground floor next to the fireplace room. From 8 to 10 clock you can go have breakfast. The breakfast room is cozy. There are several round tables that can be put together. The floor is carpeted and the tables, hanging lamp shades made of fabric. The tables have long tablecloths and a total of everything is very welcoming and friendly, if not modern.
Hotel Groeninghe is really a very nice and comfortable hotel in an excellent location. Our room was not only clean, but furnished very carefully. The bed was comfortable and we felt throughout the hotel as well. The warmth of its owners and good service are also things that speak for the hotel. Also the breakfast was good. As a bit of a disadvantage I found the bad lighting in our room and the fact that the bathroom first - albeit really small - signs of mold were found, which is surely the fact that the ventilation was not working properly. The bathrooms in the single rooms were however still very new and modern, but it was in the room was not quite as comfortable as our rooms. Overall, I forgive a recommendation and four out of five stars. If I come again to Bruges, I would definitely stay there again.
