When searching from the U.K. on the web this seemed to be the only ...Read more Being students on somewhat of a budget, we looked for cheap accommodation for our first couple of nights in Victoria (before we could check into our posh hotel, see other review). When searching from the U.K. on the web this seemed to be the only hotel in the downtown area. So we went ahead and had a look at their excellent website, were pleased with what we saw and booked a dorm room.

There are various different room combinations you can book, from private small rooms to big dorms all varying in price. We arrived in Victoria via the Clipper ferry from Seattle and so arrived in Victoria harbour, but managed to walk to mile or so to the hostel with our bags. The hostel was very easy to find and the front desk is always staffed and we were welcomed with big smiles. The reception area is very bright and there is a lot of infomation pinned up on the walls. Round to the back of the reception is a bar/restuarant that offers really nice food (we ate there the first night). I liked the fact that there was somewhere to eat upon immediate arrival, and we didn't have to worry about finding somewhere nice to eat. They did a nice range of food and plenty for my vegetarian friend to choose from.

After checking in we headed up to our dormroom, through a security gate at the top of the stairs. All of the walls are very brightly painted and all of the floors are hardwood. Everywhere is very clean and our dorm room was great, 3 bunkbeds, all with our own clean bedding that we had to fix up ourselves. The only thing I don't like about hostels is the inevitable plastic covered mattress that can be quite uncomfortable in warm weather. The dorm room had lockers and a sink, plenty of room for your bags and even a desk. There was free WiFi throughout the building and all in all we were very comfortable here. I don't think everyone likes staying in hostels but as a place to rest your head, this one was cheap (rooms started at CAD$20 a night), clean, safe and quiet, I thought it was a great little find of ours!
