The Lodore Falls Hotel. The Lodore falls hotel is in Keswick it is close to Derwent Water and the fells. Some of the rooms and the bar area actually look out onto Derwent Water. The Lodore Falls is actually in the hotel grounds and a lot of Lake District walks are started/finished/here so it is a perfect base.
The reception area is to the left as you enter the hotel. The receptionist who checked us in was very smartly dressed and polite. She told us breakfast times, showed us the restaurant/which is also the breakfast room asked if we wanted a wake up call and booked us in for our four course evening meal.
Our room was decorated in beiges, light brown, gold and green. It had a king size bed with a white duvet ,4 large pillows, 4 smaller cushions in light green and gold and a bed runner also in light green and gold, 2 bedside tables, flat screen T.V, Large wardrobe which had a trouser press inside, 2 comfy chairs with a coffee table in the middle, dressing table, hairdryer and over mirror. Tea/Coffee making facilities on top of dressing table and also two packets of border shortcake biscuits. Our bedroom was really comfortable and quiet and we had two great nights sleep
Large bathroom with 3 piece suite in white the bath had an over shower with a glass screen to the side of it, tiling mostly in white with black border tiles, lots of Fluffy Towels and toiletries by Gilchrist and Soames (spa therapy body lotion, soap, conditioning shampoo, body wash and there was also shower caps).
Breakfast was a help yourself buffet for starters which included:
Selection of cheeses.
Croissants(plain and chocolate)
Fresh fruit platter(pineapple, melon,s trawberries, grapefruit,fi gs,clementines and a range of plain yogurt and fruit purrees to pour on top of your fruit.)
Then the waitress took your order for cooked breakfast:
Pot of Tea/Coffee
Toast (white or wholemeal)
Cooked Breakfast choose from:
Eggs (poached, scrambled and fried).
Hubby had cereal to start and I had the fresh fruit platter. We had a full cooked breakfast both mornings which was perfectly cooked and delicious. Hubby had sausage whilst I had black pudding with my breakfast.
A four course evening meal was included in the price we payed (this is usually £36.00 per person).
Served in the bar area before you go in the dining room for your meal. These came on a large round plate with salted nuts in the middle and about 6 canapes round which included a small boat shaped pastry with prawns on ,a vegetable samosa, round biscuit with pate on, two rye boat shapes with a mushroom and olive filling, and a round shaped toast with pate on.
Hubby had a three bird smoked salad and hunters broth. I tried a little of this and it was lovely it was chicken, turkey and duck in separate little piles with a waldorf salad and fruit swirl glaze it was artistically presented.
I had king scallops with saffron rice and a plum glaze and berry sorbet. This was the first time I have tried scallops and they where cooked to perfection I really enjoyed them and would have them again they really went well with the saffron rice and the scallops where very tender.
We both picked the steak with chefs herb butter, homemade chunky chips and mushrooms. The steaks where melt in the mouth and the chips lovely my only complaint would be you only got five large chips but it was a four course meal so thats probably just me being greedy because they where so good. We ordered and drank a bottle of the house merlot wine to go with our steaks.
I had pear tarte tartin with vanilla ice cream it was delicious the pear was on a pastry base with an almond cake around it. Hubby had a three chocolate torte I had a taste of this and it was also delicious.
Coffee and chocolate mints are served in the bar area after your meal.
The hotel has a wide range of leisure facilities which are free to use whilst you are staying at this hotel.
Everything from leg waxing, eyebrow shping, massages to full and half day pampering sessions. We did not have time to use this facility during our stay.
Indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The weather was rainy and cold during our stay so we used the indoor swimming pool which was lovely after a days walk. The pool area was very clean and the water was warm and soothing. Towels are provided and there are small mens and ladies changing rooms near the pool area.
Through a door at the side of the indoor swimming pool was a large hot tub which looked out onto the stream and bridge in the grounds of the hotel. We swam a few lengths then relaxed in the hot tub whcih was hot, bubbly and had massage jets in one corner.
The sauna room was at the side of the indoor swimming pool we only spent ten minutes in here it was ok but to be honest I preffered the hot tub and swimming pool which where more relaxing.
We had a look at the gym but did not use it. the gym offers a wide range of equipment from tread mills to exercise bikes.
I payed £300 pounds for two nights with breakfast , four course evening meal on the first night and complimentary pimms and strawberries on arrival. We had a bottle of house merlot with our evening meal which was £18.
My Overall Opinion
I really enjoyed our stay here we stayed Friday and Saturday night and did the Lordore, Watendlath and Ashness walk taking in Ashness bridge along the way this walk starts in the hotel grounds so it was an ideal base for us. The swimming pool and hot tub where lovely after a days walk. Breakfasts and evening meal where among the best we have had. Our bedroom was really comfortable and quiet and we had two great nights sleep here. I would definitely recommend the Lodore Falls Hotel.
