Description: The Emerald Hotel is a 4-star Business hotel situated somewhat at the edge of Bangkok center. However, there are many amenities such as spas, shopping malls like Robinsons and hypermarts e.g. Jusco, Carrefour within walking distance. For those who would rather head downtown, Huai Khwang MRT station is a convenient 2 minutes walk from the hotel. From the station, simply transfer at Sukhumvit station to the BTS skytrain station of Asok. The total journey took us about 20 minutes including transfers.
The hotel seemed luxurious in space and decor. We stayed at the Emerald tower, in a deluxe twin sharing room that was spacious and modern. Housekeeping was lax unfortunately. Toiletries were not refilled (there was only 1 set of toiletries and no bedroom slippers at the designated area) and there was a long trail of ants along 1 side of the wall. We waited more than half an hour for the housekeeper to spray some insecticide on the ants. Also, I was awakened twice at night by the low battery alarm from the room's fire detector. Other grouses: there was no complimentary internet access and local calls were chargeable at 10 baht per call. Otherwise, most staff were generally helpful and polite and we had no problems communicating in English.
The buffet breakfast at the Dai-ichi Japanese restaurant had a wonderful selection of Western and Thai cuisine. From assorted cereals to fruits, rice, noodles with various condiments to eggs prepared by chefs according to your preference, we left satiated, ready to shop!
If I were to come back to Bangkok again for some serious shopping and spa, I would probably stay somewhere closer to downtown.
