Description: For the U.S. Open (tennis), we went with the family to New York in late August and we then stayed for two weeks at the St. Regis overnight. Such a cozy hotel with such good service we had never seen!
General
The St. Regis is part of the Starwood Hotels chain and has won many awards (including best hotel in New York several magazines). The hotel has been around since 1904 and was renovated in 2005. The hotel is known for his "King Cole Bar, a hotspot for celebrities and of course the place where the Bloody Mary was invented.
location
Hotel lights up 5th Avenue in the middle of Manhattan and only a few blocks away from Central Park. Once you walk out the door you are overwhelmed by the great shops, both affordable and designer and you really feel like you're in a movie about New York.
Unfortunately there just because the hotel surrounded by the city, not every room has a beautiful view. We looked for example at one end of an office building.
Interior
There are 256 rooms in this hotel, including 74 suites, all decorated in the style of Louis XVI. Louis XVI is probably thinking of excessive gold and other ornaments, but the hotel is never too much and spend hours watching the ceilings, rooms and furniture. If you enter it seems almost like stepping back in time, at such a time where everything was always very elegant and stylish.
Also, everything is always perfectly clean. All rooms we saw were spacious and light, free feeling and makes you more comfortable than a hotel where you are trapped in a dark room. The beds in the rooms are fantastic, then I had absolutely no problems falling asleep (which I do often have in other hotels because the mattresses are too hard).
We sat himself in a huge suite (we got a free upgrade via American Express) with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a sort of entrance. There were two king size beds, huge wardrobes and a few desks with a sofa in the living room.
However, prices are not really feasible for most tourists, a room for two people is quickly $ 550.
Staff
All the staff was nice, constantly smling and was willing to help everywhere. Especially the concierges have served us much while we were there, they have therefore arranged everything for us: transportation to and from the airport, tickets for basketball, the Blue Man Group, musicals, etc. There is a 24-hour butler service the night, who will bring a bowl of fruit if you do fancy it.
Everyone was very polite, it was not like what I have experienced in other hotels in New York. One of my friends came to visit and in rather strange clothes (especially in a hotel) she was treated just like everybody else. In short, the staff was great and one day after I was already at home!
Breakfast
Everything was a la carte breakfast at a great restaurant downstairs near the bar. Almost anything you can think of was on the menu and was very tasty. There are of course in typical American breakfasts like pancakes, omelets, but also a healthier things like fruit or plain yoghurt with muesli breakfast (but then there are dozens to choose from different species).
Something else I will not forget, the different types of fruit juice at breakfast, I have tried everything, from kiwi oranges to bananas to pineapples, and it was all so good that day again I did not know what to choose. Of course it was possible for the room to eat, even without a form the night before. You could just morning (or at any other time of day) call from a menu of in-room food and drink was ordered.
Extras
First there is the famous King Cole Bar, where they drinks menu seems endless. Here you can sit inside the bar, but if you want a cozy place without the (live) music, you can also just sit outside the bar in one of the lobbies of the hotel. There is the business center 24 hours a day can be made of computers to the Internet, but there is also wireless internet in rooms and on every television.
Also found in the hotel's Spa and Fitness Center ReMeD you all kinds of massages and beauty treatments to enjoy.
The fitness club was closed when we were there because they were doing construction work, so they had a temporary club created in one of the suites above. They offered apologies because only about half of the machines was there, but he was still very large. On the lower floor are also a souvenir shop and a hairdressing salon where many celebrities have their hair done.
A heated swimming pool which can be used free of charge is 5 minutes walk to the Sheraton Manhattan, but I do not have. Furthermore, there are services like packing / unpacking suitcases, limousine transportation, valet service, etc.
Conclusion
This is definitely one of my favorite hotels around the world, I've certainly enjoyed my stay. Everything was so well maintained. The high prices make the hotel but is less attractive for people who find a hotel, a room but there is definitely worth your money!
