Description: Krispy Kreme is my favorite doughnuts (though I've heard that some folks find them a little on the sweet side). But, if you are a fan, this is a great location to get your Krispy Kremes. Unlike a grocery store, all the doughnuts sold in this store are made fresh. If you are a real KK fanatic, you know that there is even a light in the front window which will flash red when the doughnuts are hot. A hot Krispy Kreme doughnut is truly divine. They just melt in your mouth.
Krispie Kreme doughnuts are formed as circles - rather than made and the centers punched out. Yet somehow, they are still able to sell doughnut holes. One of the mysteries of life - but like they doughnuts, the holes are also pretty good. I like the filled doughnuts best, and I think their chocolate flavor is a little iffy (not for chocolate purists). There are season doughnuts as well - footballs and pumpkins in the fall etc. We use them for school parties - very popular - and they are kosher so you can take them to most temples and Jewish centers (check first).
The store sells every kind of drink that you might want to enjoy with a doughbut - coffee, milk, etc. The location is a busy shopping center just across the street from Shady Grove Hospital (bring a dozen if you are visiting a friend). They have a drive through which is medium-efficient, but in Montgomery County drive-throughs are rare so this is a big plus if you want to pick up a quick treat.
The real reason (or so my kids would tell you) to visit this particular Krispy Kreme is because it is actually a working doughnut factory - ok maybe it's overstating it to say factory - but there is a really cool line where you can watch the doughnuts being pressed, fried, glazed, and filled. And then you can buy and eat the doughnuts you just saw cooked. So fun for kids. They have paper hats that kids (and some grownups) can wear, and there is a little ledge next to the window into the kitchen so even the littlest kids can watch.
This is a big Saturday morning treat for my family. Not exactly healthy, but really fun for a "once in a while" treat.
