Bibi Khanym mosque

The gigantic mosque north-east of Registan, powerful and shapely even in ruins, was finished shortly before Timur's death and must have been the jewel of the empire. The main gate (35 m high) collapsed in an eartquake in 1897.The mosque took the name of the chinese wife of Timur, who accepted to gave a kiss to the achitect if he finished his work, unfortunately Timur heard about that and killed the 2 lovers.
