Description: South of Pemberton is the vast D’Entrecasteaux National Park which stretches for 130 kilometres along the rugged coastline. The park is a fascinating mix of freshwater lakes, towering sand dunes, towering forests, marshy swamps and white sandy beaches, most of it is only accessible by four wheel drive.
The drive out to the beach across Yeagarup Dunes involves steep ascents in deep sand. But what a sight - rippled sand stretches far with a narrow strip of coastal heathland separating it from the beach being pounded by breaking waves.
For those without four wheel drives, the region can be accessed by joining Pemberton Discovery Tours, which makes regular trips through the park and across the dunes. For those visiting the area, but who have four wheel drives, you can "tag-along".
It is hard to believe that just behind the forests are these spectacular ridges of ancient sand dunes and beaches where salmon and mulloway can be caught off the beach.
