Description: Many people forget that Germany has a rich history that goes back many hundreds of years. Most people don’t think further then the First and Second World War but before that the country had Kings and Queens and royalty. The whole country is full with beautiful old buildings and palaces that are worth a visit.
The Zwinger Palace is one of these beautiful palaces that didn’t escaped the destruction of the wars and was almost completely destroyed in 1945 by a bombing raid. Luckily after the war the people of Dresen decided to rebuilt the palace into it’s previous glory.
The Zwinger palace is in the city of Dresden, east Germany and been built by architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann in a Rococo style. It was finish in the 18 century and now consists of four museums which you can visit today. Around the palace you have the beautiful grounds were you can find the typical baroque gardens with beautiful fountains. At the entrance you can hear the series of bells which are made of Dresden porcelain that plays music every hour.
The four museums are Old Masters' Gallery, Salon on Mathematics and Physics, armoury museum, and a porcelain museum and although the collections are impressive we actually mostly came for the palace itself. The palace is very impressive and has beautiful decorated rooms with beautiful art. Before the destruction in the Second World war the people were able to safe the art collection. The art that you see today is the same art from the time the palace was built.
The gardens around the palace are very large and really worth a little wonder around. The gardens as well as the palace are well kept and look beautiful. When we were here it was a beautiful summer day so we had the chance to really appreciate the gardens.
The palace is certainly worth the trip and not that far from the city center and easy to reach by public transport.
