The tour is about 6 hours long, finishing at sunset when the penguins come in. The tour guide will pick you up from most hostels, motels and hotels in Dunedin. There is some walking involved so not for the completely unfit.. But I managed it, so give it a go!
The tour takes you down to a private conservation beach on the peninsula, so you are not competing with a gaggle of tourists.. And the tour guides really know their stuff (as well as being a great laugh...) You get VERY close to nature - it's not unusual to leg it from a 400lb sea lion on a good day, so I'm told.
If you do one thing in Dunedin, or one tour like this in New Zealand, then make it this one!
