Pillsbury Crossing has been in use for about as long as settlers have been traversing the area. Most likely Native Americans used it prior to the coming of the settlers. The crossing is over Deep Creek at a point where the water runs over a very solid and flat limestone ledge. The first time we visited the crossing there were people standing in the water on the ledge fishing. There were about two inches of water flowing across the road when we crossed that day. Quite an adventure -- but be advised not to cross when the water is high.
One noteable feature was that the water was almost an olive green color. It was clean water and the color must come from the composition of the creek bed.
We haven't seen any wildlife in the area yet, but that doesn't mean that it's not around. Bring your picnic basket, spread out a blanket, do a little fishing and enjoy some time with nature.
