If you're used to diving in temperate climates where the water temp hovers around 80, be prepared. It's a nice day if our water temp gets up to 70. Generally it hangs out around the mid-60s. You will need a 6mm suit and it's up to you if you want to don a hood (I never do). The main difference between warm and cold waters is the life. We don't have the small colorful fish like you get in the tropics, but we have kelp forests and girabaldi (a bright orange fish) and small rays, moray eels, and lobster. You can find friendly nurse sharks and sheepshead bass. For a really phenominal dive, take the boat out to Catalina. (Another journal posting...)
