Description: I went to the wine festival for the first time this past year and was pleasantly surprised. All the wineries that come are from Virginia, and they range from dry red wines to sweet dessert wines. The tickets are very reasonably priced (at $20) and include around 70 vendors, some showcasing more than eight wines each. In addition, you don’t have to worry about the tacky plastic glasses that you sometimes have at wine tastings. Included in your ticket, you receive a real wine glass (meaning it is glass) that you just take from booth to booth. There are several water stations set up around the festival so you don’t have to worry about your white wine suddenly becoming a rose.
In addition to the amazing wines you will taste, there are also numerous vendors set up in case you get hungry. In addition, there were also some unique gifts to purchase and exhibits to look at. In addition, there were specials run for bottles of wine that you could buy--I believe it was three for $18. A word of warning, though: bring a bag or some tape if you wish to buy some wine. We saw numerous people with broken bottles because the boxes were not strong enough.
If you feel like you need a break from all the wine, all you have to do is walk a few feet, and you will be looking out over the ocean. It is a magnificent view and makes for a wonderful day, drinking nice wine and taking in the background of yachts and the ocean. Don’t feel that this is a strictly adult event, either--there were quite a few children and more than one stroller seen during the day. In addition, a lot of companies rented out tables and catered a meal and wine for the day.
This was truly a relaxing and fabulous day; I would suggest it to anyone who is interested in wine or wishes to be.
