For a budding gardener, this tour is a must do. I had no idea before I went on this holiday that Ecuador is one of the biggest exporters of roses in the world - did you know that? This hacienda runs a state of the art rose export business and offers tours of it's facilities - the picking/freezing/quality control aspects are all really interesting and you'll never have seen so many different colours & types of roses in your life (they even had green ones)!

Whenever a new batch of guests arrive, the staff of Guachala don their festive costumes, pick up their instruments and perform! Everyone from little kids to old men join in. Sometimes this kind of 'amateur' performance can be tacky - but this one really isn't - they are all really good! They dance & play expertly & even get the guests to join in.

If the weather's good they perform in the Hacienda's stunning outdoor central coutyard - if it's wet, in the dining room.
