The red rocks border the Crooked River. Millions of years ago, this was a major center of volcanic activity. The multi colored rocks are formed of volcanic ash and "welded tuff". Wildlife is abundant, particularly deer and small mammals. Birds use the ledges for their nests and geese nest along the river.
