Christmas and Thanksgiving at the Hotel

This big old hotel is so completely different from what most hotels are like in Florida. It's very large, yet made of wood. Like a Victorian cottage, only five stories tall. Most of the holiday decorations are inside in the public areas and they are lovely-- not shopping mall. Handed down through several owners, these decorations are likely impossible to replace. The buffets set up for Thanksgiving and Christmas are massive, great food surrounded by beautiful decorations and ice sculptures. The huge room used for the buffets has large Tiffany windows and a fascinating ceiling. Reservations required for the dinners. Viewing the decorations in the hotel, no charge for guests.

Small shops in the hotel are a treat. Various kinds of resort wear, sundries, and gifts available, and there's also a yacht broker. An additional treat is to take the tour of the hotel lead by a lady in Victorian attire, free to hotel guests and inexpensive for non-guests. A fun place to prowl around.

A lovely hotel that's over 100 years old, this is one of the original Florida resorts for the truly rich and famous. Great environment and just minutes from white sand beaches and other attractions. The hotel has beautiful landscaping not found at newer hotels.

A beautiful course near the hotel (the hotel course was sold many years ago, the course is a lovely area with plenty of activities. It's also close to beaches etc., so the kids can have something to do. There's also shopping.
