Description
I never would have discovered the beauty of this reserve if I wasn't staying in the hotel directly next to it. The park is just off Highway 101 and it is like entering another world the minute you enter it. Even though the noise and crowds of La Jolla/San Diego busineses are literally minutes away, the park is quiet and remains untarnished by garbage and pollutants.
There is a minimal $2 fee per car to enter the reserve. There are designated parking spaces and trails throughout the vast reserve. Apparently, there are bobcats and snakes within the reserve, though I never saw either. The paths are a bit rocky and uneven so be prepared with good walking shoes if you plan to venture beyond the main roads. There are trail maps available, which are also recommended because there are 8 miles of trails within the park. If you are extremely adventurous, you can even walk a trail that will take you to a more secluded spot on La Jolla Beach.
