Several famous people have called Greenville home (Civil Rights activist Jesse Jackson, basketball star Kevin Garnett, and pop singer Peabo Bryson among others), but Shoeless Joe Jackson may be the best known. Jackson began playing baseball as a youngster in Greenville's textile mill leagues and later became a star with the Chicago White Sox. Jackson, along with seven of his teammates, were accused of throwing the World Series and banned from baseball. This incident, known as the Black Sox Scandal, has kept Jackson out of the Hall of Fame. However, this park does pay tribute to Jackson's baseball feats and helps to keep his legacy alive. It is the site of where he played as a member of the Brandon Mill team in 1903. It is a must-see for baseball enthusiasts.
