More National Park Photos

After spending the best part of the last two months in northern Thailand in national parks, I've come out with a lot of photos. There's always so much to photograph, it's hard to keep my camera packed away. There could well be a lot of "Oh no! Not another bloody butterfly!" thoughts when I get home and look at my photos again!

Meantime, here's a bunch of photos that didn't make the podium in my national park journal entries!

Phu Sang National Park

On Route 1093 to Ban Huak and Phu Chi Fa is Phu Sang National Park headquarters, home to the Phu Sang waterfall. It’s about 5km southwest of Ban Huak. What is interesting about this waterfall is that the water is warm! It drops over a limestone cliff into a pool which, at 35 degrees Celsius, is great for swimming. A nature trail takes you into the forest above the falls via a series of bamboo walkways. The plateau is very marshy and there are a couple of pools where you can see bubbles rising up from the heating action below. The park is a very popular picnic spot for locals on their way to and from Phu Chi Fa, as the waterfall is right by the roadside. There is accommodation at the headquarters as well as a campground. There is another ranger station about 10km further up towards Phu Chi Fa, which also has a nature trail and is the habitat of the very rare long-tailed Poo-Loo Turtle. There was no admission fee for this national park.
