Chiang Rai's night market

How can one go to Thailand without getting a tie? (Tie-land...) Eh? Well, the Chiang Rai night market has a great selection of ties of all colors and fabrics. You should be able to get a nice one for 100 baht. You shouldn't have to pay more than that to get any of them.

Chiang Rai's Night Market

Although the Night Bazaar is a much-trumpeted tourist attraction in Chiang Rai - neat rows of stalls, a large sitting area, a stage for performers, and an abundance of souvenir stalls - the streets north and east of the day market in the centre of town come alive with food stalls starting in the late afternoon. This is very popular with the locals and is take-away only! There’s nowhere to sit with your food, so I shut myself away in my room every evening with my sticky rice like I had a guilty secret! The food on sale runs the Thai gamut: fresh fruit, fried fish, cockles and cockroaches, grubs and bugs, sausages on sticks, jam doughnuts, barbecued chicken and pork, Thai curries, quite a variety. It’s a very popular market and the streets get very crowded after 6pm.
