Maizuru park: revisited 1 year later

This park is known more for its fine views of the city but we visited the park for a different reason. One year earlier, we were awe-struck by the splendour of sakura in full bloom when we first visited the park. One year later, we were delighted by the many different species of peonies in all its glory. The heady scent from the flowers were intoxicating. This park, set atop a little hill is a good refuge for one and all, away from the crowd and bustle of the city.

How to get there:
Take the subway and get off at Ohori-koen station (look for the sukura symbol in the station). The park is adjacent to the larger, more modern park of Ohori park.

Maizuru park was once part of Fukuoka Castle. From the park, you can explore the ruins of the castle. The park has various species of cherry blossoms and poenies clearly marked. A good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
