Best in Tortola

We just recently returned from Long Bay in Tortola and had a wonderful time. The beach is amazing (book a Beachfront room so you can hear the waves at night) we found the staff fine and very helpful - although sometimes we had to be the first to smile -which is normal in Caribbean. We recommend getting out and exploring the island and surrounding islands - such a great destination filled with characters from around the world. We recommend a nice romantic walk to smugglers cove - trip to Cooper Island and Virgin Gorda and between 3pm-5pm at the resorts swim-up pool bar to compare your day stories with everyone else! It's definitely the island to visit and the place to stay for a low key, relaxing vacation!

Long Bay Beach Resort

This breathtaking sweep of beach is located at the north end of the island (and is not to be confused with Long Bay Beach on Beef Island). It is one of the most beautiful beaches on Tortola, but it is the high-rent district. It is lined with beach-front accommodations and can be crowded right in front of the resorts, but it will open up if you walk a little to the west. If you have more than a day on the island or more than a few hours in Roadtown, try to get here to see how beautiful it is. It is a 25-minute taxi/drive from Roadtown and will cost about $18 each way.

Long Bay

This mile-long, fine white sand beach, bordered by coconut palm and seagrape trees, is very pleasant and somewhat calm, despite being popular, with many hotels. The walk from my hotel at Apple Bay, steeply uphill and then downhill, was worth it, giving a great view of the bay. I spent an afternoon reading while laying on a beach chair - maybe from a hotel, but nobody controls that.

Experienced swimmers may swim to Smuggler's Cove, where snorkeling is said to be great - but get updated information about the sea conditions, especially in winter.
