About 20 miles south of Cambria is a state park where we went hiking along the cliffs, beach, and tide pools. It was a sunny and pleasant day, but because of the ranger warnings of ticks, snakes, and poison oak along the trail (none of which we observed), I dressed in jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers, then slathered on the sunscreen. Free trail maps were available at the Ranger station, which we picked up before heading to the trail that snaked along the edge of the cliff, overlooking the Pacific. It was such a beautiful day; quite a few people had the same idea we did, but it certainly wasn’t crowded. We enjoyed the ocean view, played with the crabs in the tidepools, and exercised our legs somewhat. After our hike, we brought out our sandwiches, chips, fresh cherries, and homemade chocolate-chip-oatmeal-peanut butter cookies and feasted on the sandy beach.
