This is a truly unique experience. What happens at Fred's is a very deep part of the Cajun culture. It is fun and festive.
For about 50 years, a live radio show has been broadcast from Fred's Bar in Mamou on Saturday mornings. But, it's a place where you must get up (early) to get down: the place opens at 8am every Saturday morning and the party goes on until 1pm.
There's lots of drinking, dancing, and conversation, and a Cajun band plays throughout this time. Those from 18 to 80 attend, and everyone is in a great mood and willing to share his or her story with you. People visit from all parts of the world and this adds to the charm of the event. Lots of whooping and hollering going on.
