"Wyland's Whaling Wall" and Gallery

A trip to the entrance of Mid-Bay Bridge brought us to a uniquely decorated Mid-Bay Marina where we were fortunate enough to find the "Artistry of Wyland"! Prior to this trip we had become interested in Wyland and his "Whaling Walls" through magazines, books, TV, etc. We now came face to face with an entire building painted by Wyland from top to bottom, a 1,288-foot-long, 60-foot-high mural. We were amazed and truly impressed with this gigantic spectacle of extraordinary art. We walked around three sides of the building and with no restrictions we could actually touch and get up close to his work. We then drove across the bridge to view the fourth side. Our interest peaked - this was awesome! Admiration for what we had just witnessed led to a new discovery - Wyland had a gallery right here in Destin. We learned details about Wyland himself and his recent trip to Destin to paint his 88th Whaling Wall. While at the gallery we were exposed to some of his sculptures as well as the works of several other talented artists. We left with a new appreciation of Wyland, a very dedicated and extremely talented artist.
