A tour of Assisi

You can begin your tour in Santa Maria degli Angeli, at the Porziuncola. This is a small chapel built by St. Francis and his friars, contained now within a larger church.
Continue on to Assisi- to the Basilica. The Basilica is in two portions, the upper and lower churches. The upper church of the Bascilica of San Francesco is painted with frescos by Giotto (you can compare the damage from the earthquake with the restoration).
The lower church in the bascilica contains the famous painting of Francis by Chimabue. This is also the location of the tomb of St. Francis.
