New York State Capitol Building

  • July 30, 2000
  • Rated 3 of 5 by Cheryl from Fort Johnson, New York
The Capitol building took 32 years to build and was finally completed in 1899 at a cost of $25 million dollars. It is 5 stories high with a full basement and attic. It was one of the last all-masonry buildings built. It houses the Executive Offices of the Governor, the assembly and the senate. Be sure to see the Million Dollar Staircase, which has stone carvings of over 300 famous people in American history, as well as friends and relatives of the sculptors. Guided tours, lasting approximately one hour, are available on Mondays thru Fridays from 9-4, Saturdays and Sundays at 10, 11, noon, 2, 3 and 4.
