This four-hour, 32-mile excursion departs from the city park in Avalon at 9am in an air-conditioned tour bus. The bus travels through the winding roads through the Catalina mountains and offers a stunning view of Avalon and a look at Catalina’s undeveloped and protected cactus laden mountainscapes. Keep a watch out for some of the Island's renowned buffalo herds.
The tour stops at a small airport in the mountains. Aptly named "Airport-in-the-sky", it boasts a nature center and some historical exhibits and has a gift shop and restaurant - you can get lunch here for under $10.
The tour continues to the other side of the Island to take in the breathtaking sight of Two Harbors Bay and then the final stop at El Rancho Escondido, an Arabian horse ranch. Tour the trophy room full of cased trophies, photos, saddles, buckles and other memorabilia of the prize winning Wrigley Arabian Horses. Outside in the arena, guests are invited to watch an impressive demonstration of these beautiful animals at work. Refreshments are served at the ranch before the trip back to Avalon.
This tour is a good way to see the Island and get a look at what is on the other side of the Island. The cost for this tour is $47.25.
