Greek Theatre

Words really do fail me. Both for itself and for the views from it, it is one of Europe's really great places. I hope the photos give a better idea although it was hazy so the view does not appear at its best.

The appelation 'Greek' is worth a bit of comment. Apparently although it dates back in its origins to the Greeks, what is to be seen is almost entirely Roman.

From journal Taormina - truly awesome.

The Greek Theater is very impressive and dominates the Taormina landscape. Used by the ancient Greeks to stage spectacles and theatrical presentations, the theater is still used today for performances by some of Sicily's top musical stars. Evening performances are held all summer long and are particularly magnificent with Etna spewing fire in the background.

The Ampitheater's history sucks you in as soon as it comes into view. Although a ruin, it is easy to imagine the events that took place there eons ago. The view of Mount Etna is awesome from here. Don't forget your camera!!
