Description
Located in the valley of the Huatanay River in the Andes, the city lies at 3360 metres above sea level. The local climate is characterized by the rainy season between November and March when it is generally cold. Milder and dryer weather is the norm for the remainder of the year. This busy city is the centrepoint for much of Peru's tourist activity with tour companies using it as a base for trips to Macchu Picchu The Sacred Valley and other activities.
The central square lined with tour companies and restaurants, souvenir shopping is catered for in the streets behind the square in the form of established shops and street vendors.
