CSS Neuse

The CSS Neuse was built on the river during the Civil War but never made it to sea. It was engaged in one battle and then scuttled to prevent it falling into enemy hands. There was a rumour that it held Confererate gold and the people who dug her out of the mud bank may have been looking for it. The keel and ribs of the ship are on display in a covered area near the river. It has been moved back from the river's edge as flooding caused damage to the ship and the museum. Relics, painings, and memorabilia are on display in the museam. A visit is a must for the Civil War buff and still interesting for everyone else. There is enough park area around it that the children can wear off some of their energy even if they aren't interested in the ship.
