A cannon captured during the Revolutionary War from the Lady Blessington (a British ship-of-war) by John Wright Stanley was planted on the corner of the churchyard fence. It was used as a surveyor's landmark to lay out the city and can still be seen there. John Stanley was an arms privateer, patriot, and church member.
During the Civil War, the church was used by the Union forces. In 1871, the second church burned and was rebuilt for use by 1875.
A bell of Christ Church was the first to signal the signing of the World War I Armistice.
In 1996 a carillon of bells cast in France was added to the four bell Westminster peal as a gift from a parishioner.
