Great for Families

While this park used to be more action oriented its become more of a little-kid friendly park. And while this is great for families, it neglects some of the older kids as well. I recently took my 11 year old cousin with me and he was bored stiff most of the time. The rollercoasters are alright but the shows, most of the rides and the themes are all designed towards families with small children. The park just isn't what it used to be anymore.

Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Waterpark

I just returned from one of the most frustrating vacations of my life. This new indoor water park sounded like a wonderful gift for my 7-year-old son, who LOVES water parks. It turned out to be a horrid choice. The pricing for this new hotel is a bit on the high side. It is probably an okay place to stay in the summer and do the Great Escape. But the indoor water park alone is not worth the money or the travel. The activities that the hotel advertises as available for children are only offered on the more expensive days, Friday to Monday. So, if you are trying to save money by taking a midweek trip, there will be little else besides the water park for kids to enjoy. The water park features are okay at best: one family slide, two single slides, a few smaller slides, a water play area, a floating river, and a wave simulator for body surfing. It is definitely a scaled-down version of a larger park, understandable for the indoor format. Young children will enjoy it; older ones might find it a bit boring. The issue I had concerned the OBVIOUS problems they had with the chemicals in the water park. The first night we were there, my son (along with at least four others, children and adults) ended up in the first-aid office with an oxygen mask on. The reason we were later given was a "ventilation malfunction." But this was not the only problem. Our second/last night there, we returned to the room to realize that both of us were covered in what felt and looked like a sunburn. When I called our family doctor (after very little help from the hotel management), I was told it was probably a reaction to high chlorine levels. When I checked out the following day, I voiced my opinion loudly. I spent a LOT of money on this vacation and it was COMPLTELY unsatisfactory. I was given a $100 "inconvenience credit" for the first night's ventilation problem. But the chemical burns that we both had are apparently "a risk that is taken with indoor water parks." They claimed that a warning about high chlorine levels is posted, but I didn't see one anywhere. I feel as if my son and I were guinea pigs in this newly opened park. I guess this is a risk with new places, but you can bet I won't be repeating ANY business at this place.

Six Flags - Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom

There are over 125 rides, shows and attractions including five roller coasters. Some of the shows and attractions are the Incredible Acrobats of China (Acrobats and Jugglers), Aqua Bash (High Diving Act), Real Country (Live Country Singers), King in Concert (Elvis Impersonators) and Andrew Simmons Wildlife Experience.

The Water Park has alot of great things to do there's Paul Bunyan's Bucket Brigade which is a five story treehouse tower that shoots water everywhere! It has more than 150 water powered guns and cannons to a 1000 gallon water barrel overhead that tips to drench everyone below! Capt'n Hook's Adventure River is a rafting ride that takes you through waterfalls, waves and water bombs and cannons that are getting fired from Capt'n Hook's Pirate Ship.

For the younger kids there's Noah's Playground that has animal figures that are fountains and water slides in a shallow pool of water.

If your going to be in the area for a few days it is cheaper to buy a two day pass, a two day General Admission pass is $39.99 and for 48" and under it's $23.50. Kids 2 years old and under are free.

From the town of Lake George you head south on route 9n, it will be about 5 miles down on the left hand side.

Six Flags - Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom

This park is large enough to spend at least 2 days at. Luckily they offer 2 and 3 day passes. An entire day can be spent at Splashwater Kingdom alone, with the wave pool, Lumberjack Splash, and the many river rides this is a wonderful escape from the summer heat. If you love roller coasters this park gives you many choices. The newest coaster is the Nightmare at Crank Axle Canyon which is entirely experienced indoors in the dark. The Comet has been featured on MTV's Road Rules and Discovery Channel's Wild Rides II, and is now considered the number one wooden coaster in the world! The Boomerang thrills its riders with huge drops both forward and backwards. Last but not least is the Steamin' Demon full of corkscrew twists and turns. The park also has wonderful picnic areas and many other rides and attractions.
