We dove the two wrecks that the area is famous for -- the Naval Destroyer Saskatchewan and the enormous transport ship, the Cape Breton. The visibility was better than 30 feet the entire trip once you descended below the plankton bloom at 20 feet, and the ships were spectacular. The Saskatchewan has much more life on it, having been down for much longer, but the Cape Breton has so much more to explore. Please note: if you don't have overhead training, you should not attempt to penetrate the wrecks. Also, you should have advanced certification, as the average depth for diving even the outside of these ships is about 90'.
The other dives including Clarke Rock and Snake Island wall were outstanding as well. We observed some large Wolf Eels at Clarke, and huge Ling Cod and an Octopus at Snake Island. Our last dive was a shore dive at the end of Nanoose Bay - a site called Madrona Point Wall, very near the resort. It wasn't as impressive.
I recommend bringing or renting a drysuit for these waters -- the water temperature was around 50 degrees Fahrenheit the entire week.
We had an outstanding time. Cold water diving doesn't get much better than this.
