There are 72 steps leading up to the Buddha. Once you're at the top you can walk round the Buddha ringing the bells that have been placed at varying points.
When I was there they were re-doing the floor & tourists had the opportunity to buy a brick - you can donate however much money you want, then write your name on one of the bricks which will be laid the following day. You'll also be given a friendship band for good luck!
At the entrance to the Big Buddha there are numerous stalls & people making pancakes - I highly recommend the banana & chocolate pancake - not to be missed! Watch out for the dogs by the entrance though who may jump up on you to try to get share!
