This included tour is offered twice a day. In the morning you are transported by truck to a nearby ranch (about 15 min ride) for horseback riding in the fields. In the afternoon the ride goes from (and along) the beach. The same cowboys and horses apparently are used on both rides. We did the ranch ride. The horses were in very good condition, and while riding around the ranch we could see that they are used regularly for farm work. The area was very interesting, flat and damp (rice is a main crop) with a few small-ish trees but lots of small bushes and birds. Most of the ride was along trails through the fields - quiet and relaxing. The gait never went above a canter and most of the ride was a walk. The beginning of the ride, though, was along a dirt road with large trucks passing occasionally, so a basic ability to control your horse is needed. The cowboys with us only spoke Spanish but were very friendly and happy to talk to me about farming in the Dominican. There is no limit to how often you can do so if you really like riding, you could do it twice a day! Take long pants to avoid saddle sores and expect to get muddy.
