Vrsic Pass

Description:Vrsic Pass is in the Julian Alps (and in Triglav National Park too) and it's also Slovenia's highest mountain pass at 1611m a/s/l. You need a car to go there, as there is no public transportation; alternatively Kompas Tours in Bled organises a few times a week a Julian Alp Tour.
The Russian Chapel is located half way up the Vrsic Pass and it's sign-posted. It's an ortodox chapel set in the wood and it was built by Russian POW during World War I when they were building a road through the Soca Front for the Austrian army. From the small roadside parking-lot, walk uphill along the path for a few minutes.
Pass Vrsic is a scenic spot for a photo-stop, as you can see the beautiful Julian Alps from very near. You can enjoy the mountain views as well as the valleys below, and also go for short or longer hikes from there. If you decide to do so, a few hundred metres from the road-side there's a mountain hut where you can stay overnight and get food and hot drinks too.
