The large department stores are amazing because on one level you have clothing, the next electronics, the next household things, the next furniture, and one level is the grocery store. That area is always one of my favorites because you can pick up all kinds of cool snacks and funky foreign foods (i.e. fish flavored crackers, weird gooey snack treats, and plenty of tea and instant coffee).
Clothing is a little cheaper than the states and the clothes are in high fashion. Some of the shops reminded me of Gap and Banana Republic and they all tend to have great sales.
There are music stores that sell CDs for the regular price, but it is better to wait until you are in a smaller town. Small towns tend to have CD shops that sell theirs for very cheap and it is a good way to build up a nice collection. I was worried that the CD might not pay in my CD player, but they were fine and high quality.
