The 360 degree views of the town and surrounding countryside were gorgeous and a great photo-op. We happened to be up there when the clock struck 3 pm and we were bombarded (I mean serenaded) by a cacophony of 47 ancient bells ringing out their songs and the hour all around our heads. Our ears are still ringing, but we'd do it again if we could!
Open 9:30 am to 5 pm every day during the summer. Ticket costs range from BEF 50 to BEF 100 ($1.10 to $2.20); family ticket available for BEF 200 ($4.40).

Not so many tourist know that you can climb the Belfrey. If you're not afraid of climbing 366 steps, you'll discover a great view of Brugge.
And if you can't climb all the steps, you can always go to the Concertbuilding (Concertgebouw) on "Het Zand", it has a nice "terras-café" on the 7th floor AND it has an elevator. You can as well enjoy the music of the carillion (47 bells, weight: 27 tons in total)

Be ready to climb some stairs! A lot of stairs. 366 to be exact. And like most towers you come across in Europe that date back in time, the stairs seem to get steeper, narrower, and smaller the higher you go. Not good if you are afraid of heights or confined spaces. I could see this stairway getting crowded in high season, but we were then in March, so it wasn’t that bad.
The view at the top is worth the climb, as is the up-close view of the inner workings of the 47 bell carillon.
The view at the top is a 360-degree panoramic view of Bruges. You pretty much can see the extent of the Old Town and the windmills off in the distance. There are some great photo opportunities.
